They pay homage and celebrate the music of the by-gone legends of the Blues such as Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter and Muddy Waters along with contemporary heroes like the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Billy Gibson and many more.
Band founder and front man Dermot Donohue (DD) leads with vocals and blistering harmonica and is solidly backed on guitar by Fergus (Blind Boy) Brennan. The back beat is tightly bound together by Michael O’Boyce on fretless bass and the stylish drumming of percussionist Ronan McKee. Each of these boys brings with them a love and passion for their instrument and when you put all of that together into one melting pot it cooks up to be a real foot-stomping brew.
Between them they have accumulated almost 100 years of playing experience which is the equivalent to a long guilty stretch down on Parchman Farm. But the only thing these boys could be found guilty of is repeatedly giving their audiences a damn good time with their Rhythm & Blues grooves. I guess you could say on that count that they are repeat offenders and certainly guilty as charged.
Meanwhile while on the loose DD & the Delta Boys continue to play their energetic, entertaining and enjoyable gigs. Many unsuspecting audiences at their shows quickly find themselves being held hostage by their infectious enthusiasm and are drawn in to share in their sheer delight in performing. It seem only natural that they have built up a following wherever they play.
This band certainly will be a treat not to be missed by anyone in need of an excuse to take their Black Cat Bone down to Belfast and get their Mojo working !
